- Fort and palace timing built around opening hours and heat, so you see Amber Fort and Mehrangarh before the midday sun and the tour buses
- Honest train versus car-and-driver comparison for each leg, with realistic costs and journey times for both
- A desert camp and dune-sunset recommendation near Jaisalmer that isn't the overpriced tourist-trap version
- City-by-city food picks, from Jaipur's old-city sweet shops to Udaipur's lakeside thalis, away from hotel-restaurant pricing
- A full day-by-day budget in rupees covering stays, transport between cities, entry fees, and food
Sample itinerary
Day 1-2: Jaipur
Amber Fort at opening time, the old city's bazaars and Hawa Mahal in the golden-hour light, and a City Palace half-day before the evening train out.
Day 3-4: Jodhpur
Mehrangarh Fort and the blue-city rooftops, a sunset at Jaswant Thada, and a short loop through the old city's spice and textile lanes.
Day 5: Udaipur
A slow City Palace morning, a Lake Pichola boat ride timed for sunset, and a rooftop dinner looking back at the lit-up palace.
Day 6-7: Jaisalmer
The fort's narrow lanes and havelis by day, then a desert camp outside the city for a dune sunset and a night under genuinely dark skies.
Reviews
We had exactly a week and were worried about wasting days on travel between cities. The route order in this guide meant zero backtracking and we still had time to slow down in Udaipur.
The Mehrangarh timing tip alone was worth it, we got the fort almost to ourselves before the tour groups showed up. The desert camp recommendation near Jaisalmer was also far better than what our hotel tried to upsell us.
Detailed and practical, especially the train versus car cost breakdown. Would have liked a couple more restaurant picks for Jodhpur specifically, but otherwise covered everything we needed.
